Climate
Reference Network Station at Canaan Valley State Park
A photograph of the Climate Reference Network
station at the Canaan Valley State Park. This station is part
of the primary measurement network in the U.S. that is responsible
for assessing present, and predicting future climate variability.
It is maintained through a partnership with NOAA and the West
Virginia Division of Natural Resources.
We are currently working on getting local updated
weather data from the Canaan Valley Air Quality Reseach Station
located on the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge. When all
systems are fully integrated with CVI's database systems, that
data will be displayed here. The research conducted at this site
is through a partnership with NOAA
Air Resources Laboratory and the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service.
Data from this station is being combined with
the extensive land use/land cover databases utilized by CVI’s
GIS group to extrapolate deposition amounts out to other Highland
areas. These data sets are also combined with historical meteorological
data from NOAA/ARL’s READY system http://www.arl.noaa.gov/ready.html
to assess where air masses affecting Highland regions originate.
