Highlands Action Program News

CVI's Research and Education Center and Research Support Building  are registered construction projects under the LEED Green Building Rating System TM for new construction. LEED is a complete framework for sustainable design and construction of buildings that are resource efficient and environmentally responsible.

These construction projects will actively demonstrate how green building techniques can help restore, protect, and enhance the regional environment, and in so doing, improve the quality of life for residents of the Mid-Atlantic Highlands.

Canaan Valley Institute (CVI) empowers local citizens to create healthy communities and clean watersheds. By providing education, outreach, and technical assistance, we help communities gain the tools and skills necessary to develop lasting solutions.

We envision every community having access to clean water. Healthy streams and watersheds are vital for communities to thrive—today and for future generations. Clean water is important for drinking, industries, recreation, and aesthetics, but water can also tell the story of the overall health of a community. Poor water quality can be an indicator of other socioeconomic challenges in healthcare, education, and economic development. Communities that lack vital systems such as water and wastewater infrastructure have little chance of thriving. It's not something most people think about, but if you live in a community where access to clean water isn't a given, there is nothing more important.
