National Association for Interpretations Region 2 Fall Workshop

Natural Stream Design Construction Management Techniques


Dates:
September 13-15, 2010
Location: CVI's Research and Education Center near Davis, WV

Natural stream design (NSD) is being applied to a wide spectrum of environmental restoration projects, including highway bridge construction, flood management, coal mine reclamation, water quality, and instream habitat improvement. This course will provide the participant with step-by-step instruction in the NSD process, from initial background concepts, through site management and construction, to final clean-up. Students will spend two days on a CVI project under construction that includes pattern, dimension, and profile restoration. Training will be provided on construction stakeout and installation of instream structures. This workshop will be an intensive mix of classroom and fieldwork.

Southern Draft Animal Days


Dates:
September 17 & 18, 2010
Location: Blue Ridge Institute, Ferrum College, Ferrum, VA

The second annual Southern Draft Animal Days will be held at the Blue Ridge Insitute at Ferrum College in Ferrum, VA, on September 17 & 18, 2010. Wendell Berry is guest speaker on the afternoon of September 18. Advance tickets are available at $12 per day or $20 for the weekend. This event will be conducted in association with Healing Harvest Forest Foundation, www.healingharvestforestfoundation.org.

The focus of this event is small scale (teams and single) animal powered use and limited multiple hitch sized equipment. The goal is to attract, education, equip, and inspire more start up and small scale people in this culture of modern animal powered techniques. West Virginia's Water Resources: Threats and Opportunities

Restore America's Estuaries (RAE) is holding its biennial National Conference "Preparing for Climate Change: Science, Practice, and Policy" on November 13-17, 2010, in Galveston, Texas.

RAE's national conference brings together the best and the brightest in the coastal habitat restoration community—diverse stakeholders from across the country, including top representatives from federal, state, and local governments; corporations and businesses; non-profits; grassroots organizations; tribal associations; and education—all united in the search for solutions to the needs of our coastal ecosystems.

RAE expects more than 1,000 attendees, 150 exhibitors, 160 poster presentations, and 400 presenters in 80-plus, high-level sessions dealing with the best and newest approaches to coastal habitat preservation and restoration.
