Canaan Valley Institute's Stakeholder Services and Assessment Division provides technical assistance and educational programs that help communities and organizations identify, develop, and implement sustainable solutions to serious water issues that affect their daily lives.

To build the capacity of local people and organizations, CVI's education programs offer regularly scheduled courses and some specifically targeted training in the following areas:
- Natural stream design (NSD)
- Wastewater treatment systems
- Watershed management
- Geographic information systems (GIS) and mapping
